2012 Lecture Series starts Feb. 1

Our February Lecturer is Dr. S. Edward Hawkins III of the JHU APL! The MErcury Surface, Space Environment, GEochemistry and Ranging (MESSENGER) mission is now beginning its second year of orbital operations. One of the primary instruments aboard the spacecraft is the Mercury Dual Imaging System (MDIS). This presentation provides a brief overview of the challenges of a Mercury mission, with emphasis on the development of MDIS, and a synopsis of some of the spectacular images acquired during MESSENGER's first year of operation.
